Exactly a year ago me and Lynoure went to a sing-along kind of event at Bremen university, in which people introduced simple german songs that would get translated, explained and then sung together.
The event was organised for the benefit of Syrian refugees and other migrants. We went, so we could get to know the world around refugees a bit, and learn some German.
At some point, the person who was leading the event invited people to sing songs from their own culture to the others.
I instinctively thought about Fabrizio de André's Girotondo. Then I looked at three Syrian kids that were there with us, with their wonderful smiles, and the lyrics of De André's song hit me hard. I had a very hard time not to burst out into crying.
